QU4RTETS is a program of art, music and lectures inspired by T. S. Eliot’s masterwork, “Four Quartets.” It features artists Makoto Fujimura and Bruce Herman and composer Christopher Theofanidis, along with the Kandinsky Trio and members of the Roanoke College faculty.

QU4RTETS has appeared at Duke University, Yale University, Baylor University and Gordon College. After its Roanoke College program, it will travel to China, Japan, and the United Kingdom. For more information, visit:

At Roanoke College, QU4RTETS is sponsored by the Donald L. Jordan Endowment for the Humanities, the Copenhaver Artist-in-Residence Endowment, the Robert D. Benne Center for Religion and Society and the Roanoke College Fine Arts and English departments.  All QU4RTETS events are free and open to the public.

  • Introduction - Dr. Robert Schultz, Roanoke College professor of English
  • Artists Makoto Fujimura and Bruce Herman, keynote remarks with project video
  • Composer Christopher Theofanidis discusses his piece, “At the Still Point”
  • The Kandinsky Trio and guest musicians perform “At the Still Point”
