Description: The Roanoke College Jazz and Wind Ensembles, under the direction of Dr. Joseph Blaha, will present an spring concert on April 18, in the Olin Hall Theater at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature the Jazz Ensemble performing arrangements and compositions by New York and Los Angeles musicians Jeff Jarvis, Les Hooper and the legendary Miles Davis. A special arrangement in honor of Roanoke College’s music and service fraternity, Mu Beta Psi (Omicron Chapter), will be performed by graduating senior and Mu Beta Psi brother, Becca Ward. She will join Jazz Ensemble vocalist, Alejandro Ramos, in an up-beat rendition of the song from the musical, Fiddler on the Roof, “Sunrise, Sunset.” The Wind Ensemble concert will feature music that depicts activities that fit into the realms of myth, magic and ritual. Such offerings will include Steven Reineke’s dynamic "Goddess of Fire," John Barnes Chance’s exciting "Incantation and Dance" and Karl L. King’s circus band clown-act overture "Fountain of Youth." Music from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and a march celebrating the pageantry of the Olympics will round out the program. The concert is free and open to the public.
