Introduces the methodologies of the social sciences through an inquiry-focused approach to a topic. The course seeks to develop students' critical thinking skills through the exploration and application of social scientific methods. Individual sections will be taught in a particular discipline.

Catalog Description:

An examination of theory, research, and debate concerning the nature of and cha nge in information in contemporary socie ty. Topics covered will include traditio nal and critical theory, information the ory, theories of mass communication and mass society, innovation and diffusion a s well as postindustrial and post modern perspectives. Media ethics, privacy con troversies, and policy implications are also considered. Lecture: 3 hrs/wk.
