An analysis of intimate, marital, and f amily interaction patterns in contempora ry American society, with a focus on the social institutions and structures that shape them. Topics include courtship an d dating, cohabitation, selection of lon g-term partners and issues related to ma rital and parent-child relationships. Mu ltiple family structures such as nuclear families, egalitarian marriages, gay an d lesbian relationships, single parentin g, and stepfamilies are examined. Lectur e: 3 hrs/wk.
