Catalog Description:

An exploration of several of the most important models of counseling and psychotherapy. Approaches examined will include psychodynamic, Adlerian, person-centered (Rogerian), existential, behavioral, reality, cognitive and cognitive-behavioral, constructivist, and integrative. Videos will show master therapists working with actual clients. Students will learn several criteria for evaluating each theapeutic approach, write analytical responses after viewing each video presentation, and keep an analytical/critical thinking journal on the approaches and examples used. Attention is also given to describing the nature of training and education received by various kinds of helping professionals, the nature and scope of problems and isues dealt with by counselors, and values in the field of counseling and psychotherapy.
